Who Lets Your Dog Out? Director

Our Story So Far

Who Lets Your Dog Out? was founded in 2018, by Sara Barnes who is the owner, director and chief dog walker.

All our services are operated out of Sara’s home in the Gonerby Hill Foot area of Grantham, and we cover the Grantham area.

From the start in 2018 we offered walking and home boarding, focusing on the dogs in our care being part of our family.

In 2019 we started to offer in person Pet First Aid courses, to both other pet professionals and members of the general public.

For more information about these courses please check out our Pet First Aid Courses page.

In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic hit and all plans to further our business offerings were put on hold as we were forced to weather the pandemic. In person Pet First Aid courses were put on hold as it was felt that it was safer to keep us all socially distanced.

2021 saw the launch of our first website, and the introduction of our first staff member, Emma.

2022 was an amazing year for growth with the business, including more staff members, a second van and some new services.

2023 has seen the growth continue, we have had to convert over to a Ltd company and a thrid van join the fleet. We have introduced a weekly swimming session and there is more to come.

She Only Wants A Dog Of Her Own

Ok, so like most kids growing up I wanted dog, and plenty of other things, our family dog came in the form of a rescue black lab cross (we think with a whippet) called Sam, when I was about 11, and this was the start of a whole host of adventures.

Anyway fast forward many years, and I grew up, got a degree, and a “proper” job. This was the usual live in a shared house experience, so no chance of having a dog.

After a few years in various roles and industries, I got the chance to live and work abroad, so grabbed it with both hands.

This saw roles in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, South Africa and Egypt, so not really ideal for pet ownership.

As I got older I missed home and returned to the UK, again finding myself a office job, but this time travelling around the UK. The offer of a timeshare pet with my parents was rejected by them, so I was still pet free.

I finally got a job near home and bought a home of my own (yes until that point I was a semi-permanent resident of my parents’ house), but long hours made me feel the time was not right for a dog of my own.

After a darker period struggling with my mental health (depression) I took the plunge and started out on my own and decided that dog walking in the fresh air would be a great way to get healthy (body and mind) and give all the love I have for animals to those in my care, and getting plenty of doggy kisses and cuddles in return.

And that was the start of this now amazing business that gives me plenty of joy and happiness, as well as the odd growing pain.
Alongside this it has given me a great collection of walking boots and waterproof clothing, and I have traded my little black car for a bigger white van! (or 3)

It is such a relief being able to leave my very special dog with someone I know who will care for him

Sara and the team have had our rescue puppy for almost a year, and they have been amazing. Caddie was very nervous around people when we first got her but the team understood that and have been fantastic with her! Could not recommend these guys anymore!
